Centre for Neurosurgery - Schoen Clinic Vogtareuth

Interdisciplinary cooperation for your health

With more than 35,000 inpatients treated in over 25 years, our Centre for Neurosurgery is one of the largest neurosurgical hospitals in the region. We specialise in the treatment of all conditions of the central and peripheral nervous system in children and adults. These include neurosurgical clinical pictures that lead to acute and chronic pain, as well as conditions of the spine and tumours in the brain and spinal cord. We also have particular expertise in the treatment of complex epilepsies.

Our concept for successful neurosurgical therapy is based on intensive interdisciplinary cooperation. Your treatment team is put together individually for you and, in addition to our highly qualified specialists in neurosurgery, consists of all the experts necessary for your optimal treatment – for example neurologists, spinal specialists, neuroradiologists or neurourologists. This enables us to offer you comprehensive treatment under one roof at Schoen Clinic Vogtareuth.

Focus on epilepsy treatment

Our hospital is highly specialised for patients with epilepsy and offers extensive outpatient and inpatient care. In our interdisciplinary team, specialists in neurosurgery, epileptology, neuropaediatrics and neuroradiology work together with specially trained therapists and nurses to intensively treat you as an epilepsy patient. We have modern technical equipment for precise pre-surgical diagnostics and operating theatres with state-of-the-art technical equipment.

Promising assistance thanks to neuromodulation

In our Centre for Neurosurgery, we work with modern methods of neuromodulation. Neuromodulation is the direct influencing of nerve structures. Using highly specialised techniques such as spinal cord stimulation for specific chronic pain or deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, it represents a promising therapeutic option if conservative or conventional surgical measures have not shown the desired success.

Computer- and robot-assisted surgical techniques

Our neurosurgical hospital has state-of-the-art operating theatres to provide optimal care for patients with complex conditions. For example, in 2011, Schoen Clinic Vogtareuth was the first neurosurgical hospital to use a surgical robot as an assistant. Using other highly specialised instruments such as our surgical microscopes, monitoring during surgery, and neuronavigation, we significantly increase precision and safety during your operation.

Cooperation with neuroradiology – gentle treatment for you

In order to treat vascular conditions of the nervous system, our neurosurgical hospital cooperates with the Neuroradiology department at University Hospital Augsburg, one of the largest radiological departments in Germany. Using modern radiological imaging of blood vessels (angiography) and interventional procedures, we can make a rapid diagnosis of conditions of the brain and spinal column. The corresponding treatment, for example in the case of aneurysms, can then be carried out gently and without major surgery on the head.
