Surgical treatment methods

Herniated disc surgery

We’ve specialised in treating herniated discs for over 15 years. With this experience, our experts can determine the exact time from whichherniated disc surgery would likely be more successful than lengthy conservative treatment.

Our spinal experts who carry out 10,500 procedures   per year always operate on intervertebral discs using minimally invasive methods. Using small skin incisions and surgical microscopes or endoscopes (keyhole surgery), our specialists can do the following:
  • Repair damages
  • Remove a defective intervertebral disc
  • Place an artificial implant
  • Place artificial intervertebral discs.
This results in very small wounds and reduced damage to the muscles and tendons as benefits to you. Wounds therefore heal faster and we can discharge you home earlier, often after just two to three days.

Numerous modern surgical techniques and specialist instruments have been developed in the 21 German Schoen group specialist hospitals. These advances guarantee that you’ll receive the highest-quality herniated disc treatment.

Freedom from pain thanks to trained nurses

Whether removing the affected intervertebral disc tissue, implanting an artificial intervertebral disc or fusing bordering vertebrae, our interdisciplinary team will match you with the best-possible treatment, tailored to you.
We pay special attention to pain therapy. We use special medication-supported treatment during surgery all the way to after-care, meaning you have next to no pain and can move around unaided. To achieve this, our experienced nurses – so-called “pain nurses” – undergo special pain training.
