Spina bifida – Our therapy

The term spina bifida, often also called an open spine, covers a complex clinical picture, the severity of which can vary.
It is thus very important for your child’s treatment that they are treated at a special paediatric centre that guarantees interdisciplinary care. Following acute care at birth, orthopaedic care is also necessary during the child’s further growth. At Schoen Clinic München Harlaching, your child will receive long-term, empathetic care from an interdisciplinary team of experienced specialists in paediatric orthopaedics and spinal surgery. This comprehensive collaboration enables us to create the optimal therapy for your child, which is individually oriented to the form and the severity of their spina bifida. An operation to correct the open spine defect is performed immediately after the birth, usually in the maternity clinic. As your child continues to grow, additional conservative and surgical treatment measures become necessary, which we bring together under one roof.
