Shoulder surgery and sports traumatology

Specialists for shoulder surgery and sports traumatology

Your shoulder hurts with every movement? The new specialist centre for shoulder surgery and sports traumatology at Schoen Clinic Lorsch offers you the full range of arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery at the highest level as part of inpatient and outpatient care.

Modern surgical care in shoulder surgery and sports traumatology – highly specialised and scientifically sound

Knee twisted? Meniscus or cruciate ligament torn? Reconstructive surgery for the knee joint is also a particular focus of the specialist centre. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Olaf Lorbach, our consultants and nursing staff work hand in hand to offer you the best possible care. Whether for acute sports injuries or long-term shoulder problems – our experts will make time for you and your concerns.

Experts in arthroscopic surgery

We treat our patients both conservatively and surgically. If an operation is necessary, we can now treat even complex shoulder diseases and injuries using arthroscopic operations (keyhole technique). A particular focus of the department lies on reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee joint. The injured structure is restored using a minimally invasive technique or replaced with a tendon from the patient’s body. It is our declared goal to enable you to once again participate actively and painlessly in everyday life and sports.

High expertise in Lorsch

Our consultants, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Lorbach, have many years of experience and carry out a large number of these procedures according to the latest scientific standards. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Lorbach is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in his field. Thanks to his expertise in arthroscopic surgery, Prof. Dr. Lorbach was awarded the title of AGA Instructor by the German-speaking Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA). In this context, he has been successfully training young medical colleagues in the field of arthroscopic surgery for the shoulder and knee joint for many years. He is involved in numerous scientific projects and publications as Deputy Head of the Shoulder Committee at AGA and in his long-standing collaboration with Saarland University (Orthopaedics Clinic).

In addition, Prof. Dr. Lorbach is a certified shoulder and elbow surgeon with the German Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE).

Experts in joint replacement

A further focal point of the department is shoulder joint arthroplasty, i.e. the replacement of the diseased joint using an artificial joint surface. Although methods that maintain the joint always take priority, joint replacement can be useful if the joint is so damaged that other conservative and surgical methods are no longer sufficient. In this case, our team combines its wealth of experience with the latest findings from medical research in shoulder arthroplasty to ensure the greatest possible treatment success.
