Handling the fears betterDuring hypochondria therapy, we primarily take into account your individual fears and, together with you, search for methods to deal with them differently in the future.
Conservative treatment methods
The psychosomatic explanatory modelAt the start of the hypochondria treatment, our specialists discuss all of the available findings with you. Additional examinations will be performed if necessary. At the same time, a psychosomatic explanatory model is developed into which other influences are integrated in addition to organic medical factors. These include:
- Experiences from childhood and adolescence (e.g. serious illnesses in the family, anxious parenting style)
- Triggering events (e.g. birth of one’s own child and the associated assumption of responsibility, short-term suspicion of serious illness)
- Maintaining factors
First, maintaining factors that reduce anxiety in the short-term are discussed. Our therapists will then show you other methods of overcoming anxiety that are effective over the long term. With therapeutic support, you will then learn how to implement them. Regaining confidence in one’s own body is an important component. This can be achieved, for example, with the help of sports therapy.
If other mental illnesses such as depression exist at the same time, the aim of the therapy is to cope with stressful life events and to change the “memory of symptoms” in such a way that the symptoms subside. For the hypochondria treatment to also be successful, it is essential that you actively cooperate in it.
Additional hypochondria therapy with medication can also be carried out based on the severity of your illness. Our specialists at Schoen Clinic have extensive experience in treating severe mental illnesses with medication.
