Treatment methods

We especially value treatment methods that take special care to preserve tissue
The way we treat your foot depends largely on the characteristics of the damage and the stage of your disease. For the best possible treatment, in Schoen Clinic we have a specialist team of consultants, nursing staff and therapists. The optimal setting of the blood sugar level, special relief shoes and measures to improve your circulation are absolutely crucial. In the case of serious misalignments or infections, only an operative procedure can prevent your infection from spreading.
Conservative treatment methods
Diabetic foot: Treatment without surgery
Our diabetologists and neurologists give you comprehensive advice if you are suffering from a nervous disturbance. In the case of slight misalignments or calluses we prescribe you what are known as diabetes-adapted shoes with a wide toe space and soft cushioning insoles. In the case of larger misalignments or the start of ulceration, we take additional steps such as sole stiffeners or a heel spacer (mid foot pad) for better hold in the shoe.We treat chronic wounds, as required, with a dressing shoe, a forefoot relief shoe or a special gypsum bandage. If your wound is not healed after six to eight weeks, despite correct treatment, then surgical correction can become sensible.
Surgical treatment methods
Diabetic foot: Treatment through surgical correction
Through an operation, our specialists resolve the bone pressure that led to the wound. If the misalignment is uncomplicated, we can set your tendons so that they offset the misalignment. In the case of advanced misalignments, it is necessary for us to remove parts of the bone.Operation in the event of infections
If you have an infection, as a rule, we can treat your foot through alternative measures: These include continually relieving your foot and starting antibiotic treatment. An operation will then become necessary if your signs of infection do not reduce with conservative treatment. Even when significant tissue damage becomes evident or severe general signs of infection are present, the source of infection must be treated through surgery. The earlier, the better. As part of the procedure, all areas are then removed that have died due to the infection.
But no worries: Our foot surgery specialists are very experienced. They place the cuts in a precise way. Thus they can view all structures to be removed and, at the same time, avoid excessive damage.
